Database

The MiMus project revolves around the MiMus DB, a comprehensive database designed to organize and systematize information extracted from an extensive collection of archival records. These documents shed light on the poetic, choreographic, and musical activities within the courts of the House of Barcelona, spanning from the mid-13th to the mid-15th century.

Through the digitization of this archival corpus and subsequent computerized processing and storage, the project breaks away from the conventional static presentation of documents typically found in paper-based archival repositories. The MiMus DB facilitates access to the records in a dynamic manner, enabling users to explore various categories shared across multiple documents. This approach allows for the extraction of pertinent details regarding courtly entertainment, including information on venues, circumstances, costs, entertainment professionals, their social standings, specializations, movements, relationships with power, and the intricate networks of patronage and diplomacy that supported their activity.

The technical development of the MiMus DB is carried out by the Centre de Llenguatge i Computació at the Universitat de Barcelona (CLiC) and the Digital services company Moixó.
